LYMM OUGHTRINGTON PARK CC V OUTCASTS CC
1 May 2019
LYMM OUGHTRINGTON PARK WON BY 50 RUNS
The first game of the 2019 season saw a depleted Outcasts team travel to the pleasant Oughtrington Park ground in Lymm. Stuart Craigen was making a welcome return after a couple of years, and Outcasts numbers were supplemented by Reynolds CC stalwarts Colin Dixon and his son Craig, and Peter Glynn, on loan from the hosts.
Lymm batted first and Kyran Noone and Stuart Craigen opened the bowling for Outcasts. Lymm were scoring at a steady rate and running for everything before Peter Glynn struck in the seventh over, dismissing his son B. Glynn for 12 with the score on 40. Lucas and Lymm skipper Chris Oakes made good progress before both retiring having reached the 25 run threshold. Chris Truesdale and Peter Glynn picked up a wicket each, before Kyran returned to bowl Oldfield with the last ball of the innings, leaving Lymm on a challenging 120 for the loss of five wickets.
Outcasts reply began with Ted Noone and Craig Dixon, but Ted didn’t last long, being bowled by the youthful Bircham off the last ball of the first over. Craig and Stuart Craigen then put on a useful stand of 38, but were always behind the required rate, finding it hard to overcome the well set field, and the very slow outfield. Craig was eventually bowled by Marshall for 16, before Stuart and David Walsh both succumbed to Cullen for 20 and 12 respectively. Raj and Kyran were both run out in a vain attempt to push the scoring rate along, and after Andy Broadhurst was bowled in the last over, Outcasts finished on a sorry total of 70 for seven, 50 runs short of the target. A disappointing start to the season, but as Yazz (and the Plastic Population) famously sang, the only way is up!
