Vale Vikings won by 75 Runs.

Vikings Pillage Outcasts
Outcasts opened their 2017 season with a visit to Bowden Vale on Wednesday, 26th April, where their hosts were Vale Vikings. Chris Truesdale captained the side for the first time, with Les Cooper stepping down after several seasons in charge. The weather was a mixture of sunshine and sporadic, light showers, but the rain was never enough to interrupt play. It was pretty chilly, too, though not as cold as on Outcasts' only previous visit to the ground last year.
The Vikings batted first and it very soon became apparent that the Outcasts were in for a difficult time in the field. It had been agreed beforehand that when a batsman reached 25 runs he would retire to give someone else a chance, and the Bowden lads make full use of this rule. Three of their batsmen reached this target and another came close as Outcasts' bowling came in for some heavy 'tap'. The home side pillaged 157 runs from their allotted twenty overs. Amidst the carnage, though, there were some spirited bowling contributions from Les Cooper, Ted Noone, and Andy Broadhurst. Andy's concession of a meagre 4 runs from his two overs was especially commendable, given that Vale were chasing every ball.
The home sides' daunting total was always going to be too much for the Outcasts to chase down, as quick scoring has not been their forte for some time. Nevertheless, there were defiant contributions from Alick Cross and Harvey Hunting - the latter playing against his old mates - both of whom reached the 25 retirement target. Sadly, none of their batting partners could keep pace, and the Outcasts' innings slowly subsided with their final total well adrift of Vikings' score. Hutton and Jordan picked up two wickets apiece for the hosts, with Jordan's 2 for 8 off four overs being particularly impressive.
After the match, Outcasts enjoyed a delicious homemade stew supper laid on by the hosts in the clubhouse.
So the Outcasts start their new season with a heavy defeat. But they will go into their next fixture, at Lymm next week, with spirits still high and hopeful of a better result.

Man of the Match - Alick Cross (25 not out, 2 catches, a stumping and a hand in a run-out)
