Outcasts Brought Back Down To Earth As Rammy Dads Hand Out A Beating
Brooksbottom Cricket Club
Wednesday 9th August
Outcasts 92-7 off 20 overs
Rammy Dads win by 7 wickets
Outcasts went into the return fixture with Rammy Dads looking to extend their unbeaten run of four matches, having won both their tour matches in Dorset, beaten Broadbottom and tied an exciting match with Rammy Traders. The match was played on an artificial surface on a sloping pitch in the pretty little village of Brooksbottom, in the shadow of Holcombe Hill, north of Bury. Outcasts won the toss and elected to bat.
The visitors were very soon in deep trouble however, as Paul, Andy, Ted and Raj were all dismissed in the opening overs with only 13 runs on the board. Indeed, it looked at one stage as if they were in line for their lowest ever score. David Walsh and Jeff Stanton steadied the ship, however, before David had to retire at the obligatory 25 maximum. Outcasts were 72-5 after 14 overs, a significant recovery from their disastrous start, but once Jeff was out for 23 they could add only another 20 runs in the final 6 overs. Nonetheless, a score of 92-7 was considerably better than it looked like being at one stage, and a respectable total by Outcasts' recent batting standards. David Walsh with an undefeated 28 and Jeff Stanton with 23 were the pick of the batsmen.
Rammy Dads set about their innings and got stuck in to the Outcasts bowling attack by blasting several shots over the pavilion and short boundary, in the process loosing Outcasts entire collection of match balls. To their credit some of their players did find a couple of the balls in the undergrowth. Paul Mooney picked up a wicket and Les was, in the words of the batters ‘completely unplayable’, as the all-weather track was a quick and skiddy surface which suited his action. In the end, Dads big hitters proved to be the main difference between the two teams.
