OUTCASTS CRICKET CLUB - ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Date: Thursday 31st January, 2019

Stalybridge Station Buffet Bar – 6:00pm – 9:00pm.

Minutes

Present: Les Cooper, Ted Noone, Steve Potter, Chris Truesdale, Ron Truesdale, Raj Vij, Colin Wood

Les Cooper chaired the meeting in Peter Taylor's absence.

  1. Apologies for absence

Andy Broadhurst, Paul Lucas, Paul Mooney, Graham Oldfield, Steve Ramsden, Eric Shufflebotham, Jeff Stanton, Peter Taylor, Nick Thompson, David Walsh.

  2. Minutes of the A.G.M. held on Tuesday 8th February, 2018

These were agreed as a correct record.

  3. Matters Arising

Web site link on Facebook page

    Les had seen to that.

    Caps

In the event, 8 caps had been purchased out of club funds, rather than the 6 reported in the minutes. But 15 had been bought altogether, which is what the last AGM had agreed.

  4. Treasurer’s report (Colin)

Colin presented his annual report which had been circulated in advance.

The main points were:-

  1. £249.87 was carried forward from 2017.

  2. £85 was collected in annual subscriptions last year, at £5 per head. This is £5 less than for 2017.

  3. Income from match day subscriptions again just about covered pitch fees home and away (allowing for contributions from our opponents).

  4. Major additional items of expenditure during 2018 included

  • £187 for pizzas following home matches. This was largely recouped through subs and opposition contributions;

  • £88 for a new consignment of club caps;

  • £108 for web site fees.

  1. There is currently £151.16 in Outcasts' bank account.

  2. There is an additional £10 'float' not included in the balance sheet figures.

    Summary:

Outcasts CC has a current surplus of £151 to carry forward into the new season. The reduced kitty is largely explained by the unusual, one-off purchase of 8 new club caps.

The meeting thanked Colin for his meticulous financial accounting.

  1. Captain’s report (Chris)

Chris highlighted the fact that there had been some problems during the season in getting a team together; that the side had generally acquitted itself well, with a number of very close finishes; and that the batting displays had improved overall.

Playing Record

  • Original fixture list of 18 matches,

  • Late fixture at Vale Vikings added at the end of August.

  • Outcasts won 4, tied 1, and lost 8.

  • Some confusion about the Dorset Dinosaurs result.

  • 6 matches had to be cancelled for one reason or another.

    Achievements

  • Steve Potter most runs with 205, followed by David, Chris and Jeff.

  • Jeff highest score with 76 not out v Rammy Dads, first game.

  • Paul Mooney leading wicket taker with 10, followed by Chris (8) and Paul Lucas, Derek and Tony with 4 apiece.

  • Three wicket hauls in matches for Derek, Paul Mooney (twice), Jeff.

  • Andy's hand in 8 dismissals, including 3 stumpings in one match!

  • David Walsh with 4 catches.

  • MOTM awards: Steve P three nominations, David Walsh 2, and one each for Chris, Chris Costa, Derek, Andy, and Jeff.

Silver Boot Awards

  • Chris Truesdale won the Champagne Moment for his stunning, running catch in the deep at Broadstone, Dorset.

  • Colin, who had shared the Golden Duck last year with Andy, won it outright in 2018.

  • Steve Potter was the deserved winner of the Silver Boot following a fine season with both bat and ball.

Sad farewells were bid to Derek Molyneux and Colin, who had decided to hang up their boots; and to Paul "Raging Bull" Mooney who had moved out of the region to pastures new.

The meeting thanked Chris for his report, and for his work on behalf of the club throughout the year.

  1. Social Secretary’s report (Ted)

Ted outlined the various social activities that had been held throughout the year. These included:

  • Pre-season pie and peas supper at Stalybridge, also in April.

  • A golf day at Boysnope on the 12th April.

  • Les's Ingleton ramble on the 19th May.

  • A visit to a T20 game at Old Trafford, which hadn't taken place due to lack of interest.

  • The Dorset tour at the end of June.

  • Plans for a snooker night that hadn't materialised.

  • The annual golf tournament at Chorlton, won this year by Steve Potter.

  • The Silver Boot Dinner on the 9th November at Peachy Keens, with pre-meal drinks at Sinclair's bar.

  • A pre-Christmas pie and peas evening at Stalybridge on the 6th December.

  • A visit to the Manchester Beer and Cider Festival on the 24th January.

The meeting thanked Ted for coordinating a varied and enjoyable range of events.

  1. Election of Club officials for 2019

Club Chairman: Peter Taylor was unanimously re-elected as club chair in his absence.

Team Captain: Chris Truesdale was unanimously re-elected as captain.

Treasurer: Colin Wood was unanimously re-elected as treasurer.

Team Co-ordinator: Steve Potter was unanimously re-elected as team co-ordinator.

Fixtures Secretary: Chris Truesdale was unanimously re-elected as fixtures secretary.

Social Secretary: Ted Noone was unanimously re-elected as social secretary on his proviso that this would be his final year.

  2. Club Subscriptions and Match Fees (Colin)

Colin's treasurer's report had included the following recommendations:

  1. We keep annual playing membership subscriptions to £5 per person for 2019.

  2. We again encourage non-playing members to contribute £5 per head to help support the club and its social activities.

  3. We keep home match day fees at £4 per player subject to there being no increase in pitch fees at Winton.

  4. We raise enough through additional subs plus contributions from our opponents to cover the costs of any refreshments at home matches.

  5. We continue to charge a variable fee for away matches depending on the pitch costs, refreshments, travel expenses, and our opponents’ contributions

  6. Members buy their own refreshments at the AGM.

These recommendations were approved.

  1. Web Site (Les)

Les gave a brief run-down of the sums needed to keep the web site operating. Last year it had cost just over £100, but this included substantial payments that were due only every other year.

  2. Opposition, Fixtures and Nets (Chris)

Chris updated the meeting on fixtures that he had provisionally booked for the forthcoming season. These included double-headers against Lymm, and Reynolds, as well as games against Rammy Dads, Peak Park Planners, Broadbottom, Vale Vikings (but later in the year this time), Rammy Traders, and Totty Tigers. Games against Albion and Chorley Hospitals needed to be fitted in, too. Outcasts might need to amend their home batting retirement rules to attract Chorley back to Winton. Chris had also been approached by a club we haven't played against before, and would try to fit them in as well.

Nets had been arranged at Total Cricket, Tameside, for the 10th and 17th April. All welcome.

There was some discussion about the possibility of a game between the current crop of players and the 'oldies' who had used to play but no longer did so on a regular basis. Chris and Ron undertook to explore further. Winton, on the 23rd April, was mooted as the likely venue.

  3. Dorset 2019 (Paul M)

Paul Mooney had emailed through details of the 2019 Dorset tour.

Dates: 21-25 June

Accommodation: Booked, deposits paid

Group Size: 26 (4 children)

Cricketers: 11

Fixtures: 22 June v Dorset Dinosaurs (venue TBC); 23 June v Bride Vale CC (venue Bride Vale)

There followed a lengthy discussion about who was eligible to tour. The view was expressed that all Outcast members ought to have the chance to go if they so wished in the spirit of inclusiveness. There were those who argued, however, that the Dorset tour was a long established event amongst friends, was arranged by invitation, that places were limited, and that it was always open to newer members to organise their own tour if they felt so inclined.

Paul's arrangements were welcomed and noted and it was agreed that he be given the names of other team members not on his initial list who might be interested in touring in case any of the regulars had to cancel.

  1. Future social events programme (Ted)

A number of suggestions were put forward for this year. These included:

  • A couple of golf days, including the Outcasts official golf tournament. Ted would investigate possible courses, as Boysnope was no longer available.

  • A snooker and darts evening, Les and a mate to investigate.

  • Les's ramble.

  • A T20 cricket match at Old Trafford (Ted).

  • The Manchester Beer Festival next January (Eric).

  • A mystery rail trip; Les to organise.

  • Ten Pin Bowling at Parr's Wood (Ron).

  • A curry night at a city centre venue (Raj).

Other ideas to be forwarded to Ted as soon as possible.

  1. Any other business

    1. Kit

Chris had bought a couple of shin pads at a sale for £1 each. Colin offered to donate to the club the pads that he had inherited from Ron.

    2. New players

Steve had lined up one possible new recruit, and Chris three. They could be invited to the April nets. it was also suggested that an email be sent round to all current members to find out who was interested in playing on a regular basis this season.

    3. Silver Boot Dinner

Les proposed, and Ron seconded, that the Silver Boot Dinner be moved from November to September to be nearer the end of the playing season when the main events and achievements would still be fresh in player's minds. Others argued that the Silver Boot Dinner had a long and honourable place in the Outcasts' calendar, there was little obvious general agitation to move it, and it would be difficult to get score sheets and statistics up-to-date and accurate in time for the event if the date were to be moved forward by two months. There was a lengthy and at times animated debate at the end of which, on the casting vote of the acting chair, the proposal was carried.

    4. Steve Ramsden

The meeting extended its best wishes on behalf of all Outcasts to Steve in the hope of a full and speedy recovery.

  2. Date and Time of Next Meeting

Date, time and venue to be agreed by the committee, but around the same time next year - i.e. late January / early February 2020.
